What was the purpose and outcome of this project?
This project had two primary objectives. The first was to design a housing for the PPG ring that accommodates the dimensions of the current flexible PCB while incorporating windows for optical elements. The second was to assess the limits of in-house 3D printing by creating a mock PCB to validate the housing design.
A ring was developed featuring optical windows intended to be filled with optically clear resin, along with elements designed to prevent light bleed. The design also includes cutouts in the ring body to allow electrodes to maintain contact with the user’s skin. Finally, a mock PCB was successfully fabricated to validate the overall design.
